Joe’s Wildlife Weekend and Student’s Work

Friday, August 28th, 2015

Joe and his buddy, Harry, have been fishing together for over thirty years. Harry recently bought an 1850’s log home. It sits on top of a mountain in North central Pennsylvania.

The cabin does have electric, running water and a gas stove but I don’t think I’ll be visiting as the bathroom is thirty feet from the house!

In the mornings, low clouds cover the area. Joe said it was truly magical.

Here are a few of the animals he spotted on his morning walk.

Harry has three pairs of hummingbirds circling the cabin…

And herds of deer.

Later in the morning, the guys drove down the mountain to one of Pennsylvania’s best trout streams. They refereed a race between the local inhabitants, a group of mergansers.

They saw several flocks of turkey.

Joe had just stepped out of his car and asked Harry if there were bears in the area. Harry said several just as this little one year old female walked up. She was shy and didn’t want her picture taken.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of Cathy Stemple’s finished block from my two day workshop at Quilt Odyssey.  Below is Cathy’s finished project from my one day class, Circular Garden.  Way to go Cathy.  And, she added a fun border to the design.

New Project, Fiesta Mexico and Sneakers

Friday, August 21st, 2015

OK, that is a interesting title.  Keep reading.

I just finished a new project for my one day machine applique workshop options.  (It still needs quilted)  I’ll be teaching it at the Mancuso Mid-Atlantic Quilt show in Hampton, Virginia in February.   You can find out more about the show at http://www.quiltfest.com/activities.asp?id=8    I don’t think the class offerings will be listed on the site until the fall.

I named this little piece “Circles Squared”.  In this workshop I’ll teach my machine applique techniques to include making Perfect Circles, sharp points, really nice even stems and some reverse applique.  I had fun making this little quilt.  It makes me happy.

This is her label on the back of the quilt.  Carolyn plans to enter the quilt in some shows.  I hope she wins lots of ribbons.  Good luck Carolyn.

Shortly after the email from Carolyn I got an email from Fairy Earnest who recently finished her rendition of “Fiesta Mexico”.  It makes me so happy to know that some people who purchased the pattern are finishing (smile)

New Products and Student’s Work

Friday, August 7th, 2015

Lots of exciting things this week.

After developing the Perfect Adjustable Square™ and getting lots of great feedback Joe and I  started talking about the idea of adjustable rulers.  It took a year and now we have two new products: a 6″ wide and a 3″ wide Perfect Adjustable Ruler™.

This ingenious ruler is four rulers in one package.  The five piece ruler easily snaps together to form a 6 inch, 12 inch, 18 inch or 24 inch length depending on your needs.  It has clear and accurate grid markings along with 30, 45 and 60 degree markings.  This ruler will become your perfect travel companion as it stores easily in a handy felt bag.  It is great when you are at home or on the go.

Student’s Work

Cathy Stemple took my Majestic Mosaic machine applique workshop just two weeks ago.  She actually sent me the picture within one week of finishing the class.  And I love that her dog got into the act.  Great job Cathy.  And thanks for sharing.

Cathy sent me this photo of her finished Fiesta Mexico Block Three project.  She took the class with me when I taught in Florida in the Spring.  This is her first ever hand applique project.  I think she deserves a round of applause.  Seriously, I’ve said this before, I wish my hand applique had started out so good.
